God Of War Creator Says Xbox "Sucks" In Bizarre Rant

Last week it was announced that two of the most highly anticipated upcoming Xbox console exclusives, Starfield and Redfall, have been pushed back to 2023.

If the insider scoops are anything to go by, Starfield’s delay isn’t really much of a shock - one former Bethesda dev was ripping the game’s engine and flying mechanics to shreds last month, and given it was originally supposed to release in November, there’s no wonder it was decided that it could do with more time in the oven.

You can bring up Shigeru Miyamoto’s classic “a delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad” quote as much as you like, but that’s not going to stop some people from being angry and disappointed - as many are.

One of those people is none other than David Jaffe - the creator of the God Of War series. As reported by ComicBook, he recently took his YouTube channel to give his thoughts on the delays, as well as the current state of Xbox and its CEO, Phil Spencer, more broadly. He, uh, wasn’t very positive.

Starfield may have been delayed, but it's almost certainly going to be worth the wait - take a look at the official trailer right here.

“I know it’s Bethesda, and I know that these seeds were probably already planted well before maybe even Microsoft acquired them, but it still falls in the lap of Phil Spencer and his teams. That seem to be, at this point one can only say, are being paid insane amounts of money by someone to take a fall, and intentionally f**k up,” he said. “I love my Xbox and I love Game Pass but this has been ridiculous.”

Despite calling Spencer a “visionary” and adding that he loves “his vision for Game Pass”, Jaffe went as far to say that the Microsoft Gaming CEO “sucks” at managing development, and should hire someone to oversee the games while he develops Xbox further as a platform.

“You're this fu**ing close, Phil Spencer,” he continued. “Your plan is sound, your infrastructure when it comes to these studios is sound, it’s great [but] you can’t manage. You just can't do it!”

Jaffe doesn’t actually work on the God of War series anymore, by the way, so it’s not like PlayStation have just started throwing hands with Xbox all of a sudden, but the whole rant was still pretty wild. It also obviously changes absolutely nothing about the delays, so we have quite a wait ahead of us until we’re finally able to play Starfield and Redfall.
