God Of War Ragnarök voted 2022 GOTY by Metacritic

God Of War Ragnarök voted 2022 GOTY by Metacritic

God Of War Ragnarök has nabbed the 2022 Game of the Year award from Metacritic.

You thought we’d moved away from talking about last year’s releases? Well, you thought wrong. Elden Ring may have taken home the coveted GOTY title at 2022’s Game Awards, but God Of War Ragnarök wasn’t about to let 2023 unfold without having the last laugh.

God Of War Ragnarök is an incredible game. In fact, it did sweep up the largest number of awards at last year’s Game Awards despite not nabbing the top prize of the night. Its wins included best narrative, best score/music, best audio design, best performance for Christopher Judge, innovation in accessibility and best action/adventure game. It can technically now add GOTY to that list as Metacritic have gifted the game the title after conducting their yearly poll.

Every year, Metacritic invites users to vote on their favourite games of the year and God Of War Ragnarök won by a pretty sizable margin. Participants were asked to rank their top 5 titles. Five points were awarded to first-place choices, four points to second place, and so on. After the points were tallied, God Of War Ragnarök ended up in the top spot with an impressive 2,580 points.

I don’t think it’ll surprise anyone that Elden Ring nabbed second place with 1,788 and Horizon Forbidden West sat in third with 588 points. Stray, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, A Plague Tale: Requiem, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Tunic, Sifu and The Last of Us Part I rounded out the top 10 in that order. I feel a bit like a Eurovision host handing out these points.

I digress. Metacritic released the results for the top 15 games so if you’re curious, Vampire Survivors, Pokemon Legends: Arceus, Sonic Frontiers, Bayonetta 3, and Neon White occupied those final few positions. Any notable omissions? I’ll admit, I’m surprised Immortality didn’t make the cut.
