'GoldenEye 007' Remaster Finally Coming To Modern Consoles, According To Leak

So we can all agree that GoldenEye 007 is one of the most iconic games of all time, right? Alongside the titans that were (and are) Super Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time, Rare’s adaptation of the 1995 Bond film sat proudly in the N64 library, being one of the best early examples of a good first-person shooter on a console. With it being a licensed game though, it’s had no official re-releases on modern consoles, but that could be about to change.

Back in October 2021, Nintendo requested for the game to be reclassified in Germany, as it was banned in the country when it originally released. At the time, people got to speculating whether the game would be making a return via the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, which it still may well be, but it doesn’t look like that’s the only thing in the works.

The Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack was first introduced back in October - check it out below.

Over 50 achievements have made an appearance on Xbox Live, for GoldenEye 007 for the Xbox One, basically all but confirming that the game is making a comeback. There’s even been achievement pictures found, if you needed any more proof, so it’s very unlikely that it all means nothing.

Based on the pictures, it looks like it’ll be a remastered version of the game rather than a remake, but honestly it’s a pretty big deal that it’s even making its way over to Xbox, given it was originally an N64 exclusive. Perhaps the partnership between Microsoft and Nintendo has been strengthened thanks to the likes of Minecraft and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate bringing the two together? Love me a good enemies to lovers arc. It’s probably safe to say that it’s also still likely to make a return on the Switch online service too, though - it’d be kinda weird if it didn’t.

It’s worth noting that 2022 marks the 25th anniversary of the game, as well as the 60th anniversary of the James Bond franchise in general, so it’s quite unsurprising that there’s something brewing in the works to celebrate. While I should probably advise waiting for the official word before getting too excited about it, I think we can at least let ourselves have a little hype over it. As a treat.
