It’s funny how the world works sometimes. With the release of Grand Theft Auto: The Definitive Edition, one of the greatest video game series of all time became a complete and utter joke.

In case you missed it, The Definitive Edition was a glitchy mess. The PC version was removed from sale and a ton of fans complained and requested refunds. I’m sure Rockstar is still reeling from the debacle. Unsurprisingly, The Definitive Edition sits amongst the worst rated games of 2021, and just simply didn’t satiate our appetite in the way that we were hoping for.

Grand Theft Auto: The Definitive Edition may have been a disappointment, but it made for some entertaining moments. Check out our favourite wins and fails.

Given that Grand Theft Auto III is the oldest 3D game in the franchise - having been released back in 2001 - a full remake definitely feels overdue. Rockstar has announced no such plans but one fan has taken matters into their own hands and the result is incredible. YouTuber TeaserPlay has reimagined GTA III in Unreal Engine 5 and Liberty City has never looked better. Take a look below.

Speaking about the project, TeaserPlay wrote, “GTA III in Unreal Engine 5 is what The Definitive Edition version should have been. I used Lumen for rendering and my point in making this video was to show how powerful Unreal Engine 5 is for making sandbox games and what the remastered version of GTA III should look like.” TeaserPlay is somewhat of a UE5 expert having also made San Andreas and Vice City remake trailers.

Needless to say, viewers were impressed and flocked to the comments to share their opinions. Bryan Villafuerte said, “This is the real GTA III that Rockstar should have sold us,” while Jamie O’Connor wrote, “Fantastic work, thanks sir. If only you worked for Rockstar, you know what us fans of the GTA games wanted in a remake. Keep up the awesome work.” Rockstar, this is what the people want. A fan can dream.
