GTA 5 'photorealistic' graphics overhaul is a taste of what GTA 6 could look like

Photorealistic mods seem to spring up almost everyday and each one of them brings a new level of jaw-dropping fidelity to both new releases and classic titles.

This time around it's GTA V, but it has people wondering, if this what GTA 6 will look like?

As you can see, it's pretty stunning. Every facet of the game is stunning, from the ray traced strobe lighting, to the streetlights bouncing off the vehicles body. Within the first minute the mod shows the potential for games to wow us. As the footage takes us through a gas station forecourt we get these eye-popping neons that somehow feel revolutionary.

Once the video switches from nighttime to day, you can see more in the details. Flecks of concrete are noticeable, the textures on the cliff faces feel more authentic. It truly shows just what ray tracing is capable of and why it's an important tool for developers to flesh out any world.

But could this be what GTA VI looks like? We've already seen some footage via leaks, but those character models and textures were from a very early build, meaning we could see some drastically different visuals when the trailer finally drops, especially on PC if we see DLSS and ray pathing support. Oh goodness, imagine the file size if these textures could be believed.

The mod showcased here makes the world feel a lot more atmospheric and cinematic, though it would take some processing grunt to replicate this on the consoles of this new generation. There's a moment in the footage where we're shown a stretch of the beach with the pier in the distance and it looks remarkable; the foam of the tide washing onto the sand is a genuine moment of awe. Imagine that across the new map in GTA VI and we could be looking at the game of a generation.

Watching the shadows creep across leafy trees and solid concrete feels like a beautiful leap into the future of gaming. If GTA VI looks like this on release, it's going to be one hell of a game and players won't want to leave.
