GTA 5 update removes popular mode on PS4, Xbox One

Grand Theft Auto V fans have been left disappointed after a new update removed Rockstar Editor from the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the game’s live-service component GTA Online.

We’re all itching to move on from GTA V, with the long-awaited GTA VI set to land next year. It’s no surprise really. We have been waiting over a decade for GTA VI to launch - and its first trailer teases a bright and exciting future. That being said, we might not be as ready to leave the current era as we originally thought. It’s been announced that Rockstar Editor is no longer available in the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of GTA Online, and it’s left us feeling pretty nostalgic.

As I’m sure you’re aware, Rockstar Editor was a major community tool for GTA Online, allowing players to save and edit screenshots and clips. While fans were given warning so that they could save their creations prior to the mode's removal, it’s still sad to see that it’s now finally gone for good.

As for why it’s gone, Rockstar wrote, “This change is necessary to allow us to support ongoing updates to these games on both platforms,” which is vague to say the least. All clips have now been deleted so I certainly hope you were already aware of this update beforehand. As for Rockstar Editor related trophies, these will now “be unlockable using Director Mode as part of this update”.

“This is so sad to hear. The Rockstar Editor is a core part of the game and I feel it should remain included until the true end-of-life of last-gen versions,” wrote one disgruntled fan, while another added, “Sad that Rockstar is removing the Rockstar Editor from last-gen consoles considering it's one of the best features in the game and been free advertising for them for years.” The end of an era, that’s for sure.
