'GTA 6' Gets Development Update From Rockstar Games Boss

'GTA 6' Gets Development Update From Rockstar Games Boss

Extra! Extra! GTA Online is still making tonnes of money!

Take-Two Interactive has offered an insight into the development of the next Grand Theft Auto game in its latest financial earnings report - honestly, I wouldn't hold your breath.

While we are aware that Rockstar Games is working on the new game, almost all of our scoops about the location, style and characters have come from leaks. Of course, take these statements with a pinch of salt as the team's lips are sealed, but it's sounding likely that the story will be toned down in comparison to the previous entries. There are also whispers that there will be a new playable female protagonist and the stomping ground is Vice City.

Well, while we twiddle our thumbs waiting for the merest crumb of confirmation from Rockstar Games, others have been transforming GTA V into a Homelander sim. Check it out here!

As fun as catching these leaks like a dog trying to catch the water from a hose pipe is, at least we have something from publisher Take-Two Interactive today. Onto the juicy details. Actually, "juicy details" might be over-egging the pudding. Let's go with... "moderately delectable information." Obviously, Take-Two Interactive is very pleased with the continued performance of Grand Theft Auto Online, which is a factor that players think has had an effect on the progress of the next entry in the series. If it isn't broke, don't fix the thing that practically prints you money.

"Latest generation console players of Grand Theft Auto Online grew over 40% this quarter and are monetizing at a rate 36% higher than players on the previous generation," said CEO Strauss Zelnick (read the earning presentations for yourself here). "GTA+, the premium membership available exclusively on those consoles, has seen consistent growth since launch."

Zelnick goes on to praise the sales of Grand Theft Auto V, which has reached almost 170 million units since its release, and thank the team for their commitment to raise the bar again on the next game. "With development of the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series well underway, the Rockstar Games team is determined to once again set creative benchmarks for the series, our industry, and for all entertainment, just as the label has done with every one of their frontline releases," said the CEO.

As such, we still aren't sure when the game is coming out, what its title will be, nor when we'll get a glimpse of what Rockstar Games has been toiling away on. However, as soon as we do, GAMINGbible will get the goss for you.
