GTA 6 fans already braced for review bombing nonsense

GTA 6 fans already braced for review bombing nonsense

Some GTA 6 fans believe the game is doomed to fail

It’s fair to say that few will doubt GTA VI won’t be one of the biggest and most successful video games of all time, at least judging by the success of its first official trailer.

When the first trailer for GTA VI dropped, it took social media by storm and at the time of writing, that debut trailer currently has over 146 million views on YouTube. It’s perhaps beyond belief just how many copies of GTA VI will sell at launch, despite no release date being announced for PC.

Over the years, other than selling like hotcakes, the Grand Theft Auto has received high critical acclaim from reviewers and fans alike. Take for example the two most recent entries, GTA IV and GTA V, with both scoring in the high 90s on aggregate websites such as Metacritic. So it stands to reason that Grand Theft Auto VI will also score highly, right?

Of course, we can never know 100% if GTA VI will reach the pinnacle of perfection. After all, to the surprise of just about everyone, developers of Rockstar Games could release GTA VI in an absolute buggy mess. It’s unlikely, but most certainly not impossible. Either way, the review scores from critics and fans will hopefully be a fair reflection at launch.

However, if any game is released in an unacceptable state, it won't be exempt from review bombing. I’m not always a fan of review bombing culture, but other than voting with their wallets, it’s often the best way for customers to let developers and publishers know that they’re not happy with a product and hopefully, any reported issues will be fixed as a result. Unfortunately, games can fall victim to review bombing for a multitude of seemingly unjust reasons that might not be a reflection of quality.

That being said, despite being years away from release, some believe that Grand Theft Auto VI is doomed to fail, as spoken about in a recent Reddit thread. “How do people think GTA VI is gonna flop?” asked IAmGolfMan.

“I see so many people saying GTA V is gonna be better and they won't even buy GTA VI and they'll just stick to V,” they continued. “How are these people not tired of the same game for almost 10 years, even if GTA VI somehow manages to not be better than V, everyone should still be dying for something new at this point. People are too afraid of change and are blinded by nostalgia, I guess.”

“Probably due to the way GTA online is. I doubt it will flop. Rockstar Games never fail when it comes to bringing out a single-player campaign,” replied a Redditor. “Although it's possible GTA VI online could be just as grubby as V's. I reckon the main game will be a huge success.”

KingAltair2255 replied: “To each their own and all but I genuinely can't fathom how some people buy a Rockstar Games title almost solely for the online. I saw it happen a lot with Red Dead Redemption 2 where people were ignoring the story, playing online and promptly review bombing the game because the online was crap.”

“People who say it's gonna flop are the same people who complained about how bad it looked in the leaks,” claimed TheGamingMacV. “It'll flop in a lot of people's eyes not because it's bad, but because it didn't live up to their unrealistic expectations,” exclaimed Kn1ghtV1sta.

At the end of the day, we all have our different tastes and if GTA VI does fall victim to review bombing, hopefully, it will at least be for the right reasons. Grand Theft Auto VI will be released in 2025 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
