Hackers are everywhere where there are games. It doesn’t matter if it’s online, offline, competitive, collaborative, 18+, a kids game - no matter what there is someone who has an interest in hacking into a video game. And although some of these are more harmless than others, sometimes genuinely funny or just for the amusement of people, there are those who want to spoil the fun for everyone else. And one GTA V speedrunner has been feeling the effects of modders who just want to crash GTA Online lobbies.
As reported by ScreenRant, DarkViperAU who is known particular for his speedruns of Grand Theft Auto V has voiced his concern about Rockstar’s ability to stop modders from hacking and crashing its online servers. He took to Twitter to vent his frustration, saying: “Modders can now crash the game even when you have a VPN and a protected lobby. I guess that ends the GTA Online content for now. Even when you invest hundreds of dollars into protections, nothing can ultimately fix the incompetence of Rockstar Games.”

It seems that even if players are willing to go through buying expensive protective measures, it’s not enough to stop hackers from ruining their experience. It shouldn’t be down to them in the first place but it’s discouraging to hear that protected lobbies aren’t, well, protected. VPNs that could previously hide the gamer’s IP address seem to no longer prevent attacks either.

It’s not unusual to hear of Rockstar struggling to prevent hackers. Though GTA Online has had it bad, Red Dead Online has arguably had it worse. The online communities for these games hope that Rockstar will prevent hackers from wreaking havoc on their player bases. Hopefully with the release of the Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition Rockstar can get back on preventing these attacks.
