'GTA Trilogy' Flooded With Refund Requests Over "Unplayable" State

Rockstar Games has somehow achieved the impossible, and completely pissed away any and all good will that gamers might have had for the classic PS2-era Grand Theft Auto trilogy. All in the space of a single weekend.

When Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive edition was announced last month, fans were ecstatic. Remasters of GTA III, Vice City, and San Andreas on modern consoles? The thing people have been begging for for years? A dream come true for the fans, and a license to print money for Rockstar. There was no way it could possibly fail.

Except, as you’re probably all-too painfully aware, it has failed. The remastered trilogy is, to put it kindly, a mess. There are poor performance issues and too many bugs to mention on most platforms, but over on PC the game has been literally unplayable for days

Unsurprisingly, Rockstar has been flooded with refund requests as a result, making it this year’s Cyberpunk 2077. I have to say, I never saw this coming from Rockstar - but here we are.

"The game freezes in San Andreas on Xbox Series X every time I restart a mission checkpoint," one user told the Rockstar Support account. "It loads the game but I can't move my character."

“I’ve played a few hours of San Andreas on Game Pass, and good god are there a boat load of glaring issues,” wrote another user in an incendiary post on Reddit. “Why is there even an option for fidelity and performance? A game this old should give you the best of both worlds.

“One of the most frustrating things is the fact that when it rains, you can't really see what the hells happening on screen, as the streaks of rain look like they're white, not transparent. This is a prime example of a corporation trying to pull a fast one on a loyal fanbase.”

It’s unclear how long it’ll take for Rockstar to process and approve refunds, given how many requests the company has received in the last 72 hours, but you can create a support ticket at this link.

It’s worth noting the support website has also been updated with a message promising to update and improve overall performance of the remasters as soon as possible… but it may well be too little, too late.
