Though there are a lot of unfinished elements in Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition on show in the main game, it turns out there are unfinished features hidden in the code too. The game has been getting some serious heat from the player base since its release, but modders are having a great time looking behind the scenes.

As reported by Eurogamer, there is an unfinished VR mode in the code of GTA: The Trilogy that one modder has got semi-working. Ben T, or videotech_ on Twitter, writes for Rockstar Intel, so of course, they’re going to be the one to find something Rockstar had hidden away. They posted some footage showing off what the mode might have looked like if it saw the light of day, and yeah it looks basically the way you’d expect.

Here’s the trailer for GTA The Trilogy - Definitive Edition

Though unfinished, the mode can still be activated in the code to put the camera into first person. This video shows the mode in action in GTA: San Andreas and it looks pretty good. It just brings everything down to street level, though the mode doesn’t seem to work when in vehicles.

The modder says: “There is a debug Unreal command for GTA VR but it looks a little bit unfinished. Maybe it would be cool if they implemented this as a first-person option? It plays pretty well. Gunfights and punching will need tweaking, would be super cool for screenshots!”

If Rockstar are going to be working on improving GTA Trilogy anyway, it might not be a bad idea to actually implement this mode. Or just use it as a first-person option as Ben says. It would be nice to include some extra features after fans have been so upset at the state of the remaster.
