'GTA 5' Loads Unbelievably Fast On PlayStation 5

Today marks the release of GTA V on new gen consoles and players have been eager to make comparisons between the versions on older consoles and this latest port.

Originally released back in 2013 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, players have been avoiding the banality of their own lives for the last nine years by shooting people and stealing cars all across Los Santos. This latest generation port for the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S marks the third version of this release following 2014's PS4 and Xbox One port.

Despite consumers fears that they would be shelling out the big bucks for Rockstar's greatest hit, the pricing is a lot cheaper than anyone was expecting. Fans on Xbox will pay just £17.49 if they purchase within the next three months, while Sony's homies pay a tiny £8.75. With prices like that though there were concerns that quality would be sacrificed.

While ray tracing and haptic feedback for PS5 users have been promised, players have complained that visually it looks similar to the PS4 port. Many criticised a lack of attention to detail, noting among other things that the car mirrors were without reflections.

However, one thing which has certainly improved are the load times. As investigated and recorded by VGC, one of the main bugbears with the enormous, open world of Grand Theft Auto, has been drastically shortened. Yes those excruciatingly long load times, are now just about acceptable.

Booting the main game into story mode on PS4 took VGC over one and a half minutes, while the PS5 version is down to around just twenty seconds. This isn't as quick as other games on PS5, many of which can load in just a few seconds, but when you're used to waiting the length of time it takes to play three rounds of countdown, we'll take it.
