Halo fans have no shortage of shocking reveals right now. If catching a glimpse of Master Chief’s ass in a recent episode of the Halo TV series wasn’t enough, Halo: Infinite is now trying to steal the thunder. Developed by 343 Industries, last years’ Halo: Infinite released to positive reviews. In our own review, Dean remarked that the game was “a return to form for the series” with “extremely enjoyable” core gameplay.
That doesn’t seem to be enough to retain the attention of Halo: Infinite’s players though. According to Steam Database, the game has a reported all-time player peak of 272,586, but the number of players within the last day has fallen to just over three percent of that number.

In the last 24 hours, Halo: Infinite has had a peak number of 8,706 players which is … concerningly low for a new release. It’s currently ranked 171st in terms of the most-played games on Steam. To compare, Halo: The Master Chief Collection - which is seven years older than Halo: Infinite - has a 24-hour player peak of 10,007 which begs the question: What is making Halo: Infinite so forgettable?
We could see these numbers change with the release of Halo: Infinite’s upcoming second season which is set to launch on 3 May, although one of the biggest complaints that surrounded Halo: Infinite’s release was the lack of a co-op campaign, and that’s still not on the way. Yikes.
In a recent blog post, developers 343 Industries explained “The reality is that it’s going to take more time to land a high-quality, full-featured four-player network co-op experience in the massive, wide-open world of Halo: Infinite.” They go on to note that, “The non-linear, wide-open sections of the campaign present some big challenges for split-screen that have taken us more time to solve.”
We do know that Halo: Infinite’s upcoming season will include a brand new battle pass, two new maps, three new modes, and multiple customisable items, but it could be a little too late to grasp on to its dwindling player base.
