Original Harry Potter Director Wants To Do A 'Cursed Child' Movie With Original Cast

Chris Columbus, the director of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone would love to get the old cast of the films back together to finally film Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint were of course the original Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley for the eight films from 2000 to 2011, in one of the most successful movie series of all time. Though there isn’t any indication of them returning to the wizarding world, the director of the first movie seems keen on getting them back together to complete their journeys.
In an interview with Variety, via IGN, the director was asked about the prequel series of films Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them and if Colombus could envision any more Harry Potter films coming to the big screen. He says in response: “I would love to direct The Cursed Child. It’s a great play and the kids are actually the right age to play those roles. It’s a small fantasy of mine.”

If you’re unaware, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child takes place nineteen years after the events of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. The story is mainly about Harry’s son Albus Severus Potter and his journey of attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Though it’s not quite the nineteen years since 2011, and the last of the films, we’re now ten years on and it wouldn’t be a stretch to make a film with the current actors.
There would probably be a question of whether they’re interested in doing so, however. Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson have gone on to star in vastly different blockbuster productions and films like Little Women and Guns Akimbo, while Rupert Grint has starred in an Apple TV horror series Servant. If they’re interested, though, Columbus is going to be there.
