Henry Cavill can finally play Bond now he's not Superman or Geralt, fans say

Fans are suggesting that Henry Cavill should be the next James Bond, following the news that he'll no longer be playing Superman in the DCU.

After breaking the hearts of Witcher fans everywhere by announcing that he’s going to be stepping down from the role of Geralt, it’s now been confirmed that Henry Cavill isn’t going to be playing Superman in the DCU, either.

On Twitter, DC Studios' new co-chairman James Gunn revealed: “Peter [Safran] and I have a DC slate ready to go, which we couldn’t be more over-the-moon about; we’ll be able to share some exciting information about our first projects at the beginning of the new year. In the initial stages, our story will be focusing on an earlier part of Superman's life, so the character will not be played by Henry Cavill.”

Cavill recently appeared as Superman in Black Adam - take a look at the trailer below.

While some fans are hoping that with this news, Cavill could now be tempted to return to Netflix and take back his starring role in The Witcher, others are setting their sights even higher - some believe that he'd be a fantastic choice for the next James Bond.

As we all know, Daniel Craig officially retired from the role following the release of No Time to Die last year, but it’s still not been confirmed who’s going to take up the gauntlet in his stead. And, let’s face it, Cavill would be pretty brilliant, especially now that he’s a free agent (excuse the pun).

“But this means Henry Cavill can finally play James Bond, right?” film director Stephen Ford suggested on Twitter. “Henry Cavill needs to be the next James Bond. Literally has to be the only choice,” @timmythorpev1 tweeted. “Idk if I’m that sad Henry Cavill parted [with] Superman or The Witcher, both are not my [favourite] of him, it is the classiest Napoleon Solo from U.N.C.L.E I fell in love with, I think he needs to work more [with] Guy Ritchie. Now it’s about time they give this fine man James Bond,” @youngrouniverse wrote.

It’s still early days, of course, so it remains to be seen what’s on the cards for the actor.
