Surely you didn’t think you’d heard the word acquisition for the last time? It’s difficult to think of a time when it wasn’t a part of our daily vocabulary but alas, that’s exactly what it’s become as companies continue to snap up studios to add to their rosters.
Just last week, rumours suggested that Ubisoft was open to takeover offers and in recent months, Sony snapped up Bungie whilst Microsoft acquired Activision. It’s not just game developers that are up for grabs. You surely can’t have missed Elon Musk’s $44 billion takeover of Twitter.

The latest publisher set to go up for grabs is Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment - also commonly called WB Games. The company houses multiple subsidiary developers who amongst them, have released games such as Hogwarts Legacy, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, Batman: Arkham Knight and the upcoming Wonder Woman.

Fanbyte’s Imran Khan took to Twitter to announce that he’d heard “chatter” from sources suggesting that Warner. Bros was looking to shop their gaming studios around. The move is said to have attracted plenty of interest from major parties including both Microsoft and Sony.
Khan’s full post read, “Couldn’t get enough confirmation to actually write a post about it, but hearing a decent bit of chatter this week about WB Discovery shopping their game development studios around.”
He went on to confirm, “Interested parties include EA, Take-Two, Microsoft, Sony, Tencent, Netease, and PUBG Corp. WBD wants to sell studios and license IP, supposedly.”

Most major titles released by WB Games’ subsidiary studios to date have received cross-platform releases. An acquisition certainly could jeopardise that, although it’s not a given. As with all rumours, they have to be taken with a pinch of salt until any official news is confirmed. It certainly doesn’t come as a surprise though given the events of late.
