Hogwarts Legacy fans say there's no shame in 'non-gamers' playing on the easiest difficulty

What do you get when you release a video game based on one of the biggest non-gaming franchises in the world? The answer is a lot of new people trying a video game for the first time, and it seems that we can expect that to happen plenty with the release of Hogwarts Legacy.

While some gamers are planning on boycotting the game due to its connection with J.K. Rowling (who has been criticised for making harmful comments regarding the transgender community), others are still counting down the days until Hogwarts Legacy releases. Over on Reddit, some gamers have been reassuring Harry Potter fans that they should just play the game on whatever difficulty is the most fun for them - a sentiment which I think we can all get behind.

Simon Pegg is voicing Hogwarts Legacy’s headmaster, Phineas Nigellus Black - take a look at the introduction to his character below.

“For our non-gamer friends: There’s no shame in playing the game on the easiest difficulty,” frzbr wrote. “If you are new to gaming and find it hard to learn controls or the game just seems overwhelming, don’t let anyone shame you into playing on low/lowest difficulty! As long as you are having fun it means you are doing it right.”

“Excellent point. There are so many non-gamers who are picking up this AAA title that will be like [shocked emoji]. There is NOTHING wrong with going on the easiest setting and going along with the narrative. Literally, nothing,” replied dsbwayne. “I'm a non-gamer and I'll be playing on story mode for the STORY! It's not about shame or no shame, it's about wanting to dive as deep into this emotional rollercoaster as I can,” added MissMiraLynn.

It should go without saying, but regardless of if you’re an avid gamer or not, you should always approach games in a way that you find fun - there’s no point in slogging yourself through an experience that you won’t enjoy. Whether that’s by lowering or raising the difficulty (or even backlogging a game altogether), you do you.
