Hogwarts Legacy fans want remakes of the OG Harry Potter games next

Hogwarts Legacy may not necessarily be one the year’s biggest critical successes, but it is undeniably one of the biggest commercial success stories.

Hogwarts Legacy’s sales topped $1 billion back in May and assumedly, that number has only grown since. Let’s not forget that we’ve also got the Nintendo Switch release to go, although fans are concerned about that following the game’s lack of inclusion at the latest Nintendo Direct. We’re yet to actually see any Switch gameplay - and I’m imagining plenty of us are curious to do so. The game underwent some clear simplifications to run on PS4 and Xbox One so these simplifications will surely be intensified on the Switch. Those who played the game back in February though are already itching for new content, whether that be DLC or new game entirely.

While many are hoping for a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy, other fans have suggested that Avalanche turn their attention to remaking the original Harry Potter games. Reddit user TranceRealisitc wrote, “How would you feel about remakes of the original Harry Potter games instead of a direct sequel to Hogwarts Legacy? We know that a successor to Hogwarts Legacy is most likely in the works. Most people here seem to think that it will be some sort of continuation of the story of Hogwarts Legacy. But considering the usual development times of games, it would seem that the sequel will release sometime around the release of the upcoming remake of the Harry Potter series from HBO. Wouldn't it then make more sense [for] Warner Bros to remake the original Harry Potter games instead of a direct sequel?”

“I'm down for anything, I love that world. Would be sick if they did them based on the books though. Then it would be a fresh experience,” said aggravating-mine-697, while penny_ji added, “I would say yeah to a Harry Potter series, but only if you got to seriously roleplay in it.”

For the most part though, fans agreed that Hogwarts Legacy has plenty of life left in it. “No, I prefer the freedom of HL, and don't want to be locked into the plots of Harry Potter. I want more HL, or another game that goes back even farther in time like to the founders' days, or to the middle ages,” wrote OlympiaShannon. “I am sick of the golden trio era. Legacy era feels like ‘mine’ so that’s what I want more of,” added alexneverafter. Perhaps we’ll get an update on the future of the franchise at this year’s The Game Awards.
