Hogwarts Legacy fans rejoice as new open-world Harry Potter game spotted online

An open-world LEGO Harry Potter game? Count us in!

Fans of the Wizarding World simply cannot get enough of the enchanting franchise, and this latest news is bound to please the Hogwarts masses.

One of the best video game franchises that can be enjoyed by family members of all ages is LEGO. Whether it be Star Wars, DC, Marvel, Indiana Jones and more, there’s always plenty of fun to be had with LEGO both in physical brick building form or when holding a control pad.

Check out the LEGO Harry Potter Collection trailer now!

In 2010, LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4 was released for multiple platforms, which included the first four movies/books in the franchise, namely The Philosopher’s Stone, The Chamber of Secrets, The Prisoner of Azkaban and The Goblet of Fire.

Then the following year, LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7 arrived which included The Order of the Phoenix, The Half Blood Prince as well as The Deathly Hallows - Part 1 and Part 2. In the years that followed, we were then treated to LEGO Harry Potter Collection which bundled together all previously released games. So it’s fair to say that there is already plenty of wizarding brick-building goodness on offer.

Perhaps taking inspiration from LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, which is essentially a bundle of remakes of all previous LEGO Star Wars games as well as the recent ‘sequel trilogy’, it seems that LEGO Harry Potter may be getting the same treatment. If true, much like LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, it could mean that this new Harry Potter game may also be open-world.

As reported by VGC, an image was reportedly shared on the Warner Bros South Africa Instagram page before it was deleted. A screenshot of the image wasn't shared by VGC for copyright reasons, so we’ll have to take its word on it. That being said, VGC is a reputable news outlet, so we like to trust its word.

The reported image in question is said to feature a LEGO Minifigure of Harry Potter, along with the logo of the series developer, TT Games and the LEGO logo, as well as a date of 25 August 2023.

I can’t help being drawn to the 25 August 2023 date. It would be safe to assume that this is too early to be a release date. Even if the game was fully developed, that wouldn’t give much breathing space to market its release. However, Gamescom does take place this month between 23 August to 27 August, so it’s possible that this date might be when the game is officially revealed.

In related news, a new LEGO Harry Potter set has been announced and it’s absolutely gorgeous. What’s more, in our review of LEGO 2K Drive, we said: “Visual Concepts have cruised along the track to victory.”

As of right now, the original LEGO Harry Potter Collection is available on PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch.
