It’s the little things in games that make them special, isn’t it? Those immersive touches, from the satisfying sound of footsteps on different surfaces, to being able to interact with even the most insignificant-looking parts of the environment, just take the experience to another level.

It should be no surprise that the devs behind the highly-anticipated wizarding world title, Hogwarts Legacy, are aiming to make the whole game as enchanting as possible. A new trailer was released yesterday, which showed off a number of ways that PS5 owners will be able to get extra immersed in the magic when the game releases later this year, but one feature in particular is really cool. It’s been revealed that gamers will be able to show off their Hogwarts house pride while they play, via the DualSense’s dynamic light bar.

That’s right - depending on the house you’re sorted into, your DualSense will light up in colours to match: “We’ve also tapped into the DualSense controller’s light to give you a unique bit of personalisation,” WB Games Avalanche’s community manager, Chandler Wood, wrote in a post on the PlayStation blog. “When not flashing along with spells being cast or damage being taken, the DualSense controller lights will pulse with the colours of your Hogwarts house: blue and bronze for Ravenclaw, scarlet and gold for Gryffindor, green and silver for Slytherin, and yellow and black for Hufflepuff.”

We don’t actually see this pulsing effect in the trailer - at first glance, it would seem that Ravenclaw got stuck with the basic blue DualSense colour, which would have been rather unfortunate. This is a really nice touch, though - it makes you wonder if it might even influence the house that players decide to go for.

Hogwarts Legacy is currently set to release holiday 2022.
