'House Of The Dragon' Audience Is Racing Ahead Of 'The Rings Of Power'

There’s no shortage of big budget fantasy TV right now. HBO’s House of the Dragon and Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power both broke viewership records and were released to rave reviews. Whilst it’s perfectly possible to enjoy both shows without pitting them against one another, the cold hard facts reveal there is a clear frontrunner in the popularity contest.

Game of Thrones spin-off House of the Dragon is currently set to take the crown. According to Whip Media data, as reported by The Wrap, House of the Dragon is attracting 51% more viewers than The Rings of Power in each show’s three-day post-debut window. Data from Samba TV also revealed that whilst 4.8 million US households who use its service tuned into the premiere of House of the Dragon in its first three days of release, only 3.1 million users watched the first two episodes of The Rings of Power.

It’s a similar case when it comes to ratings. The two shows share a very similar critical score on Rotten Tomatoes. House of the Dragon sits at 85% while The Rings of Power sits at 84%. The audience score tells another story though.

Viewers agree with critics, giving House of the Dragon a score of 85%. On the other hand, The Rings of Power sits at a lowly 39%. We know that the latter was subjected to unfair review bombing, but the data still reveals a stark difference. All in all though, both shows are clear successes that I’m sure will stick around for several seasons.
