'Independence Day' Director's Latest Movie Is Being Torn Apart By Critics

The trailer makes it look like your everyday schlocky popcorn disaster flick. A guy figures out the moon is falling and two abnormally attractive people of the opposite gender, in this case Halle Berry and Patrick Wilson, have to team up to take it down. There's rockets, and driving through tidal waves, and shooting down planetoids, all while our distinctly average man provides us with comic relief, because let's face it, how dare someone be normal looking in a film. It's directed by Roland Emmerich, best known for Independence Day, which while not without flaws, is an entertaining jaunt.

Reviews have starting coming in however, and Moonfall appears to be a big yikes. With characters who are dull, dialogue which makes you cringe, and a plot so unscientific and non-sensical it's difficult to follow the thread. One critic even called the main characters KC Houseman, played by Game Of Thrones' John Bradley, more annoying than Jar Jar Binks. Quite the honour. For those of you who are fans of B movie cheese, I'm sorry to disappoint but this isn't for you either. It seems Moonfall is nothing more than disappointment and boredom.

Here are some of the best opening lines from today's reviews:

"Explosion movies don't need to be smart, but they shouldn't be this dumb." Nell Minnow - Movie Mom

"Recommending that someone actually subject themselves to Roland Emmerich’s sci-fi neo-disaster flick, however, is a little like shoving three-month old milk under an unsuspecting person’s nose and inquiring, Does this smell ok?" David Fear - Rolling Stone

"Yes, the master of the disaster blockbuster, Roland Emmerich is back – and this time he’s not only lost the plot, he’s jettisoned any semblance of coherence into deep space." James Croot - Stuff

And of course my personal highlight:

"If the pandemic precludes one person from seeing Roland Emmerich’s Moonfall, then it has accomplished something positive." James Berardinelli - Reel Views

These might not be the quotes Emmerich will go for if Moonfall ever makes its way to Blu-ray.
