‘The Last of Us’ Multiplayer Concept Art Appears To Prove Major Fan Theory

‘The Last of Us’ Multiplayer Concept Art Appears To Prove Major Fan Theory

Fans believe they may have already worked out the plot to the upcoming The Last of Us multiplayer title.

It’s hard to miss the onslaught of The Last of Us news we’re experiencing. There’s the new-gen remake, a fresh glimpse at HBO’s TV adaptation, and we now know that Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson (who portrayed Joel and Ellie in the game) will star in the TV show in key undisclosed roles.

Amidst all of that was perhaps the biggest announcement of all: The Last of Us is getting a large-scale multiplayer game. Out of all the projects announced, the multiplayer title is in the earliest stages of development hence perhaps the lesser-than-deserved fanfare. So far, we have just one piece of concept art but fans already have a major theory.

If you haven’t already, check out the trailer for The Last of Us Part 1 which releases on PlayStation 5 on 2 September.

We know that The Last of Us’ new multiplayer title will still have a clear narrative led by a series of brand new characters and whilst no one has officially said where it’ll be set, the concept art clearly shows that it’s in San Francisco, California.

The Fireflies - a rebel group within the franchise - have a key link to San Francisco, as pointed out by Den of Geek. During the University portion of the first game, you can find a ‘Sniper’s Log’ collectable. The log reads, “12/20 1 Biologist from San Francisco."

The working fan theory is that a bunch of Fireflies were based in San Francisco before an event - perhaps a clash with FEDRA - forced them to move elsewhere. As such, fans now believe that this multiplayer title could see us gamers play as the Fireflies in an epic battle for control of the city. Admittedly, it’s a lot to assume from such a small detail but it sounds good. I’d be more than down to play that.
