New 'The Last Of Us Part 1' Clip Released, And Fans Are Divided

The Last of Us Part I continues to split fan opinion with its updated new-gen graphics.

We’re officially into August which means that The Last of Us Part I is less than a month away. Unlike its sequel, The Last of Us has never really been associated with controversy but oh god, people are divided when it comes to Naughty Dog’s upcoming new-gen remake.

Made exclusively for the PlayStation 5, The Last of Us Part I boasts overhauled graphics, implemented 3D audio and haptic feedback, improved AI, added permadeath and speedrun modes, new unlockables, accessibility features, and an updated workbench system. Phew. You got all that? The hot topic of debate though continues to be the game’s graphics.

When The Last of Us Part I was first announced, fans were pretty split over the game’s graphics. Many praised the added depth given to both the game’s environments and characters, but others simply questioned if the difference was worth spending £70 on. Then Naughty Dog dropped new footage of Tess which left everyone far more impressed but still, people really don’t know what to think.

This week, Naughty Dog took to Twitter simply to promote that the game was available to pre-order but they accompanied the tweet with a clip of Ellie and Joel riding on horseback. The clip switches between the PS4 and PS5 versions of the game. Admittedly, it’s not the most staggering side-by-side clip Naughty Dog have released to date, but the PS5 version does boast some nice ray tracing.

Naturally, debate erupted. LordSamaa tweeted, “PS4 version looks much better,” but on the other side of the fence, Renato80444516 said, “Am I the only one that sees big improvements in the gameplay? All the animations got completely remade along with guns and AI,” and CorvoInTheVoid wrote, “Will admit, s**t looks good. Anybody saying it looks worse means they actually just like the older version for OG versions.” The jury’s still out then, although there does seem to be a positive sway.
