'The Last Of Us Part 1' Gets 10 Minutes Of Footage After "Hurtful" Leaks

Naughty Dog have opened up about The Last of Us Part I's gameplay after footage leaked online.

The Last of Us was pretty universally adored, but the franchise has steadily become more divisive in recent years. The Last of Us Part II split fans with its controversial storyline, and the reception to the newly-announced The Last of Us Part I appears to tell a similar tale.

Plenty of fans are thrilled about the new-gen remake which boasts incredible graphics and promises to offer the “definitive” The Last of Us experience. On the other hand, there’s also a large group calling the need for the remake into question. If you don’t know where you stand, Naughty Dog have now released 10 minutes of gameplay footage to help you make up your mind.

Check out The Last of Us Part I’s brand new gameplay and features trailer below.

Earlier this week, the aforementioned gameplay and features trailer found its way into the hands of a few leakers who shared select glimpses online, warning fans that The Last of Part I only featured “cosmetic changes”.

Unsurprisingly, Naughty Dog wanted to set the rumours straight and promptly released the gameplay reveal. The video expands on The Last of Us Part I’s use of 3D audio and the DualSense’s haptic feedback, whilst we also learnt about the improved enemy and ‘buddy’ AI. Further side-by-side comparisons of the game’s reimagined environments were showcased and the devs also spoke about the title’s unlockables, new accessibility features, permadeath and speedrun modes, and the updated workbench system.

Naughty Dog vice president Arne Meyer commented on the leaks. He said, “Leaks really suck. Especially when we’re right on the cusp of an asset drop. It’s disheartening and frustrating to teams who have put their hearts into making awesome things for our fans.” Naughty Dog senior editor Samuel Prince added that leaks are “extremely hurtful to the devs who work tirelessly to bring you these wonderful games.”

The Last of Us Part I does seem to provide a revised gameplay experience, but I would imagine that the ‘cosmetic changes only’ rumour stems from the fact that the remake appears to be missing some of Part II’s gameplay mechanics such as the ability to dodge, go prone, and hide under vehicles. That being said, The Last of Us Part I could have a few more secrets up its sleeve.
