Legacy Of Kain fans are still campaigning for a remake, all these years later

Legacy Of Kain fans are still campaigning for a remake via petitions, all these years later.

Legacy of Kain fans are continuing to campaign for a remake, or even a remaster, all these years later. It would be an injustice to let this franchise wither away into the abyss.

Legacy of Kain is a series that was originally developed by Crystal Dynamics before Eidos Interactive took over in 1999. There are five games in total: Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain, Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver, Soul Reaver 2, Blood Omen 2, and Legacy of Kain: Defiance. Unfortunately for fans, the latter of those releases came out all the way back in 2003 so we’ve had a 20 year drought. It’s impressive then that fan campaigns calling for a remake are still going strong but that’s testament to what a fun action-adventure series Legacy of Kain really is.

A quick trip over to change.org reveals a wide array of petitions all aiming to preserve or revive the franchise. They read, ‘Make Legacy of Kain Remastered’, ‘PlayStation make Legacy of Kain Remake’, and ‘Remaster all of the Legacy of Kain series and revive LoK prophecy’. The most popular petition, ‘Remaster Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver for next-gen consoles and PC’ has an impressive 8,475 signatures.

Set up by Austin Clifton, it reads, “Out of all the games my parents and I played together in my childhood, this game brings back the good times we had together. The story, characters, weapons, boss battles, and everything in between really marks what a game [it] is. This game never told you what to do, it didn't hold your hand and try to help you like most games today! It was all about remembering where you last went, and what door did I just come from? This game had some of the best puzzles for you to work with. Flipping blocks, pulling levers, moving blocks, and fighting enemies while doing so just to move to the next stage.”

“Everything about this game was just a masterpiece! The whole reason we keep asking you guys for another Legacy of Kain is because of the story it told, and to finally see another story after [where] Defiance left us... you left us on a cliffhanger! I think if we get a remaster, it will invite new people who have never played it, and give the original fans nostalgia.”

Why did the franchise come crashing to a close, I hear ye ask? Well, Legacy of Kain: Defiance underperformed prompting Eidos to stick the series on the backburner. The game was actually directed by Amy Hennig who left towards the end of development to join Naughty Dog, famously directing Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, and Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. Maybe there’s hope for the Legacy of Kain franchise.
