Live-action Invincible movie in development, for some reason

Amazon Prime Video’s Invincible is still an incredibly young show. In fact, it’s yet to air its second season. Despite that though, a live-action movie version is seemingly already in the works.

Created by Robert Kirkman, also of The Walking Dead fame, Invincible is an adult animated superhero series which centres around Mark Grayson: a teenager who sets out to become a superhero under the guidance of his father Omni-Man. Season two is set to debut on 3 November, so we still have a while to wait. Voice recording is underway on the third season though - and a tabletop Invincible game is in the works. Last week, fans theorised about the potential of Spider-Man making an appearance in season two and it’s a pretty convincing argument. Today though, we’re here to address the Invincible live-action movie.

The Invincible live-action film was actually announced all the way back in 2017, so you’ll be forgiven if you totally forgot it existed. The script is reportedly being penned by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, but it was only at this year’s San Diego Comic Con that Robert Kirkman provided a much-needed update on the project.

As reported by ScreenRant (via Movie Web), Kirkman said the film has been delayed due to the ongoing WGA strike, as have almost all other Hollywood projects. He added though that Universal remains fully committed to the project, and production will resume as soon as the situation allows.

He previously told ComicBook in an interview: “We’re very much still working on that. Sometimes movies take a little bit longer. I think it’s safe to say, if anything, the show has just helped that immensely. People are very excited about that movie potential at Universal. So we’re riding that excitement and trying to push things forward as quickly as possible.” It’ll be interesting to see how the film differentiates itself from the show.
