New Lord Of The Rings Game Announced In Partnership With Weta Workshop

Private Division are teaming up with Weta Workshop on a Lord Of The Rings game.

There’s plenty of Lord Of The Rings content on the horizon. Amazon’s epic Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power series is set to premiere on 2 September, and Daedalic Entertainment’s upcoming The Lord Of The Rings: Gollum game is due to launch after that, but there’s always room for more LOTR in our lives - and that’s exactly what’s on the way. Weta Workshop and Private Division have announced that they’re working on a brand new LOTR inspired game.

Private Division, a Take-Two Interactive label, has signed an agreement with Weta Workshop as the duo are set to develop a brand new Lord Of The Rings game. The game will be set in J.R.R Tolkien’s Middle-earth and will interpret and utilise the “underlying lore of the books.”

Weta Workshop are best known for their work on the Lord Of The Rings film series, establishing the franchise’s visual style through the creation of props, sets, costumes and more. From Orcs to Elven soldiers, you can thank Weta for bringing Tolkien’s creatures to life. What you may not know is that in 2014, Weta Workshop established an interactive game division so we should expect them to bring their visual knowledge of the franchise to the game’s development.

Head of interactive at Weta Workshop Amie Wolken said, “It’s a privilege to create a new game set in Middle-earth, especially one that’s so different from what fans have played previously. As fans ourselves, we’re excited for gamers to explore Middle-earth in a way they never have before, and introduce new fans to the magic of The Lord of the Rings.”

There’s no set release date or title yet, but the project is due to launch in Take-Two’s 2024 fiscal year.
