A man dressed up as Heath Ledger’s Joker from The Dark Knight has been arrested for carrying out a brutal knife attack on a train in Tokyo.
Various Japanese media outlets (thanks, The Gamer) are reporting that a man dressed as the Batman villain was apprehended by police and charged with attempted murder. He’s also believed to have started a fire. The attack, which took place on the Keio train line in Tokyo over Halloween, has reportedly left at least 17 injured. One man in his 60s is said to be in a serious condition after being stabbed.
The Guardian confirmed with a line operator that services were suspended following “an incident involving injuries” took place before 8pm local time in the western suburbs of Kokuryo.

A video taken by a passenger and obtained by Japanese media station NHK appears to show travellers running down a smoke-filled carriage. In another, passengers are climbing out of the train through the windows to escape.
NHK also spoke with some of the passengers who were on the train at the time. “First I thought it was something like a Halloween event,” a male passenger told the outlet. “But I rushed away as a man carrying a long knife came in. I was very fortunate not to be injured”.
A female passenger added: “He held a knife and started spreading liquid. He was committing this act without showing any emotion, just mechanically. I think that brought fear to everyone.”
