The mother's condition remains unknown

Wayne County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed (via NBC News) that 22-year-old Monticello resident Jacob R. Small has been charged with attempted murder, domestic violence, and second-degree criminal mischief.

Deputies were called about a gunshot victim being taken to the hospital around 8:30pm on Sunday, March 8 - Mother's Day. Around the same time authorities were informed that the alleged perpetrator was waiting for law enforcement at a neighbour's house.

Deputy Jerry Meadows confirmed he went to the suspect's location to find Small, who claims he got into argument with his mother

“over an Xbox controller that he had given to her as a Mother’s Day gift".
