VFX Artists Call Marvel The "Worst" Client To Work For

VFX Artists Call Marvel The "Worst" Client To Work For

VFX artists on Reddit who claim to have worked with Marvel on various shows and movies are sharing their experiences of crunch.

As we all know, you can’t really have any Marvel movie or show without some heavy, heavy usage of visual effects. After all, without them, you just have Benedict Cumberbatch dramatically drawing circles in the air (although, honestly, I’d still pay good money to see that).

With that said, the talents of the people behind all those effects are going to be in demand, a lot. Unfortunately, as reported by TheGamer, a number of VFX artists who claim to have worked with Marvel have been complaining about the crunch conditions that they’ve been put under to bring their projects to life.

“Marvel has probably the worst methodology of production and VFX management out there,” wrote Independent-Ad419, who kicked off the thread on the r/vfx subreddit. “They can never fix the look for the show before more than half the allocated time for the show is over. The artists working on Marvel shows are definitely not paid equivalent to the amount of work they put in. The charm for working on a Marvel movie is way over rated now and I would rather be happy working on a TV series after decades and decades of this.”

Other artists were in agreement: “Yup. I request to not work on them, movies and TV shows. Unfortunately they’re becoming our biggest client. They expect a smorgasbord of options so they can change their mind [three] more times,” added Mickeym00m00. “Agree! After [six] years of working in VFX on non-Marvel shows, I got a taste of one last year. Absolutely the worst show I’ve ever worked on. I didn’t know how much worse it could get until that project came along,” commented sammiducky.

This sadly isn’t the first time that artists have come forward to share their negative experiences about the company. In a different thread, one person claimed that as a result of being on their third Marvel project in a row, they’d woken up due to stress “going ‘I don’t want to do this anymore’”.

As of now, Marvel hasn’t responded to the criticisms.
