Rockstar Games Has Announced More Remakes, And They're Fan-Favourites

Rockstar Games has announced that it will be working alongside Remedy Entertainment to remake two fan-favourite video games.
In an announcement nobody saw coming, Remedy confirmed that it had reached a new agreement with Rockstar to remake the first two Max Payne games for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

Those concerned that this is going to be another Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition fiasco need not worry. Remedy has stressed it will be taking charge of development, with funding from Rockstar.
The project will "be in line with a typical Remedy AAA-game production," according to the announcement. If you've played Control recently (or any Remedy game, for that matter), you'll know this is very good news indeed.
Speaking of Control, the Max Payne remakes will be developed using Remedy's impressive Northlight engine, the same one used to develop the 2019 action game - and the upcoming Alan Wake 2.
Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall Of Max Payne were originally developed by Remedy and released in 2001 and 2003 respectively. Rockstar handled 2012's Max Payne 3.
"We were thrilled when our long-time friends at Remedy approached us about remaking the original Max Payne games," said Rockstar founder Sam Houser in the announcement. "We are massive fans of the work the Remedy team has created over the years and we can't wait to play these new versions."
"Max Payne has always held a special place in the hearts of everyone at Remedy, and we know the millions of fans worldwide feel the same," added Remedy CEO Tero Virtala.
There's no word yet on a release window for the Max Payne remakes, but we wouldn't be surprised if it's not until after Alan Wake 2, which is currently eyeing a 2023 launch.
