Minecraft is getting Dungeons & Dragons story DLC

Minecraft is getting official story-driven Dungeons & Dragons DLC, and it's releasing very soon.

We’re fast approaching the 50th anniversary of Dungeons & Dragons, and there’s plenty for fans to be excited about.

For starters, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is out now in cinemas. With a 90% critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and an even higher audience score of 94%, it’s fair to say that it’s a success. Not only that, but an official D&D LEGO set is coming soon - it was designed by a fan who won a recent building competition, and as well as looking really cool, it’ll also function as a playable map. What more could you ask for? Well, it turns out that LEGO isn’t the only way to experience D&D in a blocky format - the RPG will soon be making its way to Minecraft.

That’s right, Minecraft is getting official story-driven Dungeons & Dragons DLC this spring. Players will be able to choose a class to play as and explore five locations from across the Forgotten Realm, including Icewind Dale and Candlekeep. There’ll be a whole host of iconic enemies to take down, from mimics to mindflayers and dragons.

What’s more, players will be able to totally customise their characters’ stats for an authentic D&D experience - you’ll have to roll a 20-sided dice to figure out where to head next on your adventure, too. Oh, and did I mention that the dialogue is fully voiced?

“We’re incredibly excited to partner with Wizards of the Coast, to introduce a brand new, story-driven Dungeons & Dragons DLC to Minecraft!” Riccardo Lenzi, senior producer at Mojang Studios said. “We can't wait for the community to dive in and experience a blocky take on the world of D&D.”

No exact release date for the DLC has been announced just yet, but given that we’re already in spring, we can’t be waiting too long for it. Even if you’re not an avid Minecraft fan, you can’t deny that this expansion genuinely looks next-level.
