Modern Warfare 2 devs want a Ghost spinoff game

Modern Warfare 2 devs want a Ghost spinoff game

Modern Warfare II's developers have teased that Ghost could get his own Call of Duty spinoff game.

Yesterday was a big day for Call of Duty fans. Modern Warfare II’s early access period officially opened so those that digitally pre-ordered the title can now begin the campaign. If that’s not you, don’t worry. Everyone else can join in on the fun when Modern Warfare II officially launches on 28 October.

Already, Infinity Ward have outlined a number of changes players should expect to see based on beta feedback. One of the most striking changes is to the game's new third-person feature which has been overhauled since the beta. One of the standout stars of Modern Warfare II is returning favourite Simon ‘Ghost’ Riley and developers are now considering giving the character a spinoff.

Take a look at some Modern Warfare II gameplay below.

Infinity Ward narrative director Jeffrey Negus and Modern Warfare II head writer Brian Bloom sat down with IGN to discuss their plans for Ghost. The duo revealed that they’re particularly interested in “Ghost’s origin story,” exploring how he came to get the iconic mask.

Bloom explained, “There are others who would like to do that too, and we think that would be really interesting. And again, that’s kind of where this interview started, that there’s something about that character that’s iconic, but the mask and some of those more superficial elements, as we’ve attempted to build them out here in our current release, where did some of those things come from? And exploring that, and looking at that would be something I think the audience would love, and we would love to get into.”

Negus backed up the idea saying, “It’s hard for us not to jam on like, ‘Man, wouldn’t that be cool?” It’s a resounding yes from us. Let’s hope Ghost fares better in Modern Warfare II than he did back in 2009’s MW2. That scene still hurts.
