Ms. Marvel confirmed as a new member of the X-Men

Just as many suspected, Ms. Marvel has been confirmed as a member of the X-Men in a new comic issue.

In May, Marvel Comics announced that they’d be killing off Ms. Marvel in an issue of The Amazing Spider-Man, prompting outrage from fans. The issue promised to be the “most shocking” published in 50 years, and saw Ms. Marvel essentially stabbed in the back while disguised as Mary Jane. Many fans argued that Kamala Khan shouldn’t have been killed outside of her own mainline comic book series. Others pointed out the fact that it was AAPI Heritage Month and yet, Marvel was killing off a character that, for many, provides a rare sense of representation.

The Marvels is set to release later this year.

Ms. Marvel is a character who’s seen a major surge in popularity in recent months, thanks to the fact that she’s been brought to life in the MCU by the delightful Iman Vellani. Well, in the MCU, it’s revealed that Kamala / Ms. Marvel is a mutant so when the character was killed off in the comic series, many assumed that she’d eventually be brought back as mutant to tie in with the MCU. Now, we know that to be true.

As reported by Superhero Hype, a new four-issue series titled Ms. Marvel: The New Mutant will officially see the character be reborn as a member of the X-Men. What’s even better is that the series is being written by Iman Vellani herself alongside Sabir Pirzada. Iman went from being a fan of the character to playing her and writing her comic book series. Our girl is living the dream.

Carlos Gómez and Adam Gorham will draw the four-part series, with covers by Sara Pichelli. The synopsis reads: “Kamala has been brought back via Krakoan Resurrection Technology! What a way to learn that she’s a mutant! The bad news is her debut at the Hellfire Gala didn’t go exactly as planned, and now all of mutantkind are being hunted worldwide! Into this world of hate and fear, Kamala has a secret mission to pull off for the X-Men, all the while struggling to acclimate to this new part of her identity.”

Issue #1 launches on 30 August, followed by Issue #2 on 27 September, Issue #3 on 25 October, and Issue #4 in late November.
