Modern Warfare 2 expansion to replace Call Of Duty 2023, says insider

Modern Warfare 2 expansion to replace Call Of Duty 2023, says insider

According to an insider, a campaign expansion for Modern Warfare II will reportedly be released instead of a full CoD game next year.

It’s an exciting time for Call of Duty fans. We have the sequel to Warzone right on the horizon - players only have to wait out a few more weeks of Season 5 and it’s spicy one-shot weapon before Warzone 2.0 lands on 16 November. And before that, of course, Modern Warfare II will grace our screens on 28 October.

It was reported earlier this year that for the first time in almost two decades, Call of Duty will be skipping an annual release in 2023, as the planned Treyarch release has apparently been pushed back to 2024. However, it sounds like we’ll still be getting some new content next year.

Take a look at some gameplay footage from Modern Warfare II right here.

As reported by Eurogamer, according to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, fans can look forward to some new content for Modern Warfare II in 2023, instead. “Next year they'll be selling new stuff for [MWII], an expansion or something like that (not sure exactly what it'll look like but it'll have campaign stuff too),” Schreier tweeted. “No actual new COD until 2024 as I reported earlier this year.”

This seemingly corroborates claims from a different Call of Duty insider, who recently said that campaign DLC will apparently release in late 2023 alongside a “greatest hits” map pack. The map pack will allegedly contain most of (if not all) the original Modern Warfare 2 maps, as well as some “other classic maps from Infinity Ward, Treyarch [and] Sledgehammer's catalogue”. As of now, this still isn’t officially confirmed though, so take it with a pinch of salt.

It’ll be strange to have a year without the traditional annual CoD release, but back in March, a poll revealed that most fans (over 90% of poll respondents) think it’s a good thing for the series to take a break. Hopefully, it’ll come back better than ever the following year.
