Netflix's The Gray Man was always going to be a success. It's based on the debut novel of Mark Greaney (the man who took over Tom Clancy's fiction after his death), which is the first in a hugely popular series with writer Lee Child among its fanbase. And with the impressive star power of Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans and Ana de Armas, the whole thing was critic-proof from the start.
We now know that the film is indeed critic-proof. It has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 48%, but an audience rating of 91% - and it remains at Netflix's top spot as of July 27th. To top everything off, it was announced on July 26th that both a sequel and a spin-off are already in the works.

Netflix announced that the sequel will see Gosling return as Sierra Six, with Joe and Anthony Russo once again at the helm. Stephen McFeely, who co-wrote the first film, and had a hand in Avengers: Endgame's script, will adapt the screenplay from (we assume) On Target - the second book in the series.

All we know about the spin-off is that it will "explore a different element of The Gray Man universe". It seems ambitious to plan a cinematic universe after just one film, but it might be the next huge thing. What do we know?
The mysterious spin-off will be written by Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, who worked on the Deadpool and Zombieland franchises. No details are available yet with regards to actors, or whether it'll be a prequel, sequel, or midquel.
The franchise is unlikely to change lives, but The Fast and Furious has provided us with mindless but quality entertainment for over two decades, and the next film is supposedly the last. Maybe it's on Sierra Six to take up the family mantel.
