One Of 'The Witcher' Stars Isn't Sure They're Returning For Season 3

One of the stars of Netflix's The Witcher isn't sure whether they'll be returning for the upcoming third season after all.

Production on the new season of Netflix's hit fantasy series is officially underway, with Henry Cavill (Geralt), Freya Allen (Ciri) and Anya Chalotra (Yennefer) all ready to reprise their roles. But it looks like not everyone is guaranteed to be coming back.

Before we move on, can I interest you in a quick rundown of why Ciri needs her own game?

Adjoa Andoh, who plays the priestess Nenneke in The Witcher has revealed she simply doesn't know if she'll be back. While Nenneke plays a fairly substantial role in the original books, the actor acknowledges that the Netflix series hasn't been afraid to go in its own direction.

"Yeah, I don't know. We'll see," Andoh told the Radio Times. "The books are so huge. And they've gone so many different ways in the stories. Nenneke is in the books a lot. But it depends what they want to do with, you know, this version of it."

Andoh debuted in The Witcher's second season as a priestess and head of the Temple of Melitele, and offers assistance to Geralt and Ciri on their travels.

While Nenneke does return in the books, she's not especially prominent in Time of Contempt, the novel that The Witcher season 3 is primarily adapting.

The summary for the upcoming third season teases: "As monarchs, mages, and beasts of the Continent compete to capture her, Geralt takes Ciri of Cintra into hiding, determined to protect his newly-reunited family against those who threaten to destroy it. "Entrusted with Ciri’s magical training, Yennefer leads them to the protected fortress of Aretuza, where she hopes to discover more about the girl’s untapped powers; instead, they discover they’ve landed in a battlefield of political corruption, dark magic, and treachery. They must fight back, put everything on the line — or risk losing each other forever."

It's not yet known when The Witcher season three will release on Netflix, but with production really kicking into gear we can probably expect it around 2023.
