Elden Ring update adds two new areas, combat overhaul

Is this the rumoured Miquella's Dream DLC?

The latest Elden Ring update seems to suggest that there will be DLC that adds two new maps to the game, and naturally, this news has sent fans into a frenzy.

Lance McDonald (yes, the person that did some digging into P.T. and uncovered all kinds of awful things) was rummaging in the 1.07 patch and found references to two new areas that are currently absent in the game's data. Of course, Elden Ring players are ravenous for more, creating new content in unofficial mods, even shouldering the task of overhauling the entire game's systems. They are a different breed, aren't they? The original game's story is a chunky 54 hours long, and rises to a whopping 130 hours if you want to see everything that there is to see in the Lands Between.

It's possible that the two new maps are environments that were left on the cutting room floor at Fromsoftware, and the rapturous reception to the game has given the team the confidence to restore those trimmings. Fans are throwing their guesses into the abyss of Twitter in the replies to McDonald's Tweet, hypothesising that these might be PvP arenas, or the rumoured Miquella's Dream DLC, or even a battle royale mode.

It's tough to tell right now because these map references give us very little to go off. Twitter user ZullieTheWitch points out that "m60" is the overworld with main areas denoted with tags "m10 through m19." The new "m20" might be a legacy dungeon whereas it's anyone's guess what "m45" is because there are no maps in that data range. With The Game Awards on the horizon, we might not have long to wait to find out.
