In news that can only be described as thuddingly predictable, Activision has confirmed that a new Call Of Duty is coming in 2022. I already knew that. You already knew that. The world spins madly on.
As per the rumours, Call Of Duty 2022 will be developed by Modern Warfare studio Infinity Ward. While not yet officially confirmed, it's widely believed that this year's game will be a sequel to 2019's Modern Warfare, and will be called Modern Warfare II. That's so you don't mix it up with 2009's Modern Warfare 2. Clever, right?
Over on Twitter, Infinity Ward teased that the "new generation" of Call Of Duty is "coming soon", and advised fans to stay frosty. That would suggest a reveal is coming sooner rather than later, which lines up with previous reports that Activision plans to bump up the release of Call Of Duty 2022 in response to Vanguard's lukewarm reception.

While we wait for a full announcement, there are plenty of rumours and leaks to pick through. According to multiple insiders Modern Warfare II will be set in Latin America and see players engage in an operation to take down a deadly drug cartel. It also sounds like Infinity Ward wants to really try something new with its latest Call Of Duty campaign, in a story that could see characters live or die based on your choices.
It's even been rumoured that the 2009 Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer will be remastered in some capacity as part of the upcoming Modern Warfare II. In the same way that 2019's Modern Warfare reworked and repurposed classic maps and weapons from the original Modern Warfare, we can expect the likes of Rust and Terminal to end up in Modern Warfare II.
