New PlayStation service has a hidden invite-only tier

PlayStation is currently in the process of rolling out its brand new loyalty scheme, PlayStation Stars. By completing relatively simple tasks, players can earn PSN wallet funds, select PlayStation Store products, digital collectibles and perhaps most controversially, improved customer service.

If you’re located in Asia (including Japan), you should already have access to PlayStation Stars. North and South America will then follow on on 5 October, before the service is rolled out in Europe, Australia and New Zealand on 13 October. PlayStation explained that the service would have four tiers, but dataminers have now found a fifth level.

Reddit user the_andshrew took to the site to announce the existence of a secretive fifth loyalty tier called Diamond Level. Mysteriously, the Diamond Level appears to be invite-only. The user wrote, “According to information in the PlayStation mobile app, there may be a yet-to-be-revealed and exclusive fifth tier of the service - accessible by invitation only. The fifth tier is called Diamond and has the requirements to reach it listed as Invite only to Diamond Level.”

Those who are invited to the Diamond Level will reportedly receive a ‘Level 5 Diorama - Bots Don’t Breathe’ collectible. The description reads, “In an endless sea of stars, it seems like there’s nowhere to hide. But you wouldn’t be here if you let challenges like that stop you. Welcome to Level 5.”

If all this talk of levels has you scratching your head, let me recap. All who join PlayStation Stars will join Level 1 where they will “get access to digital collectibles by completing campaigns” and “receive a celebration collectible.” Level 2 players will have “bought one full game from PlayStation Store [and] earned one uncommon trophy.” As a reward, Level 2 players will “receive a Level 2 celebration collectible and access to all collectibles from Level 1.”

To reach Level 3, you’ll need to have “bought two full games from PlayStation Store [and] earned 32 uncommon trophies.” You’ll then receive “a Level 3 celebration collectible and a birthday collectible.” Finally, Level 4 players will have “bought four full games from PlayStation Store [and] earned 128 uncommon trophies.” Their reward will be “a celebration collectible, chat priority routing and retain all collectibles from Levels 1, 2 and 3.” Got all that?
