'New World' Players Have Been Exploiting A Game-Breaking Invincibility Glitch

New World has been, so far, a massive success for Amazon Games. The developer had been struggling to find its way into the online scene with the failure of Crucible but thankfully got a purchase on the MMO genre with New World. And although it has captured the attention of many, especially following the Blizzard vs California lawsuit, there are still some bugs that need to be worked out. Like how wiggling your New World window could make you invincible.

As reported by TechRaptor, New World players had discovered a glitch that allowed them to become invincible. Although Amazon Games has already fixed it, so it’s no longer useful, it did teach players about a potentially worrying part of the game’s design.

In a video from Kona, that was spotted by Comicbook.com, the uploader shows that when in a windowed format, there is the opportunity for a player to become invulnerable. Holding the window and moving it around, meant that for that duration, the player could not die. They also couldn’t fight back against anything attacking them, but it would still be a useful tactic for some to avoid losing wars or invasions.

And although, as I said, it’s been fixed, Reddit users have noted that the way this glitch works means that the game is possibly “client authoritative” rather than “server authoritative”. This means that the player’s client is where a lot of crucial information is held rather than on the servers controlled by Amazon. This could lead to more potential manipulation - MMOs are regularly “server authoritative” to avoid this.

Well, this temporary invincibility situation was cleared up quickly, thank goodness, or even more issues would arise with the PvP in-game. We’ve already got players stealing wads of cash from each other, we don’t need this issue too.
