If there's one thing we can all agree on right now, it's that Animal Crossing: New Horizons arrived at the absolute perfect time. Nintendo has played an unintentional blinder in releasing the charming island life sim just as millions of people around the world are heading into lockdown.

Nintendo's latest Switch exclusive is providing a soothing escape in these trying times. It's a lot easier to forget the world and stay off Twitter when you're working to pay off a loan and decorate an entire island with furniture. It's also a lot easier to be apart from friends when you can just fly over to their town and pinch all their fruit. They probably won't thank you for that though.

Yes, while we wait for a cure or vaccine for COVID-19 (coronavirus), Animal Crossing: New Horizons is at least providing social and mental relief for all of us. In fact, the game is doing such a good job at bringing people together in the wake of this pandemic that one couple opted to hold their wedding ceremony in-game after the real-life event was cancelled due to the outbreak.

Ashmush

"My fiance planned it out with our best friends" ashmush explained over on Reddit. "I'm graduating from med school and not getting a graduation and our wedding was cancelled. I was feeling pretty down about missing out on my milestones."

According to Business Insider, ashmush - real name Sharmin Asha - received an in-game invite from fiance Nazmul Ahmed. Ahmed explained to the publication that he asked Asha to come over to his town to "gather resources," in order to maintain the surprise. When Asha arrived at the island, she was greeted by a number of her friends who had arrived before her. The group had made an aisle for her to walk down, and even crafted a wedding dress for her in-game character to wear.

"This made me so happy," she added on Reddit. "I don't even have the words to describe how much it meant to me."

While I'm certain Asha and Ahmed will get to have their big day in real life soon, this is bound to be an experience neither one of them ever forgets. Animal Crossing: New Horizons will forever be a special game for the both of them now. It just goes to show that no matter how bad things seem right now, there are people like Asha and Ahmed out there who are kind, thoughtful, and brilliant. Congratulations to the happy couple.
