Nintendo has announced that its delaying the release of the upcoming strategy game Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp in light of the ongoing crisis in Ukraine. It’s been confirmed that this delay applies to both the American and European releases of the game.
The announcement was made over on Twitter, and reads: “In light of recent world events, we have made the decision to delay Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp, which was originally scheduled to release on Nintendo Switch on 08/04. Please stay tuned for updates on a new release date.”

Reactions to the news have been mixed, although many fans have been showing their support for the decision.

“I mean, makes all the sense in the world. War's probably not ending anytime soon and having a war themed game in the midst of an actual war is distasteful,” tweeted @Fooza___. “It's perfectly understandable and I was expecting this given it's a game about war with tanks and modern weapons. Wishing Advance Wars the best once this horrible war is over,” wrote @So_Ethereal.
Others, however, don’t believe that the delay is necessary. “This is nonsense. Advance Wars has nothing to do with [the] war in [Ukraine], it doesn't even feel like a real war game. I don't get it and I don't appreciate it,” said @schmauza. “Wars were going on for years in other countries that didn't stop other games based around war from being released... It's probably because it's not finished yet which is strange considering it's not even that different [than] the old games,” wrote @beegust_yoshees.
Although the remake is being delayed for a tragic reason, interestingly, a very similar thing happened with the release of the original, too. The first Advance Wars game was set to release in Japan in 2001, not long after it came out in America, but was cancelled due to the 9/11 attacks. It was instead released in 2004, along with its sequel, as Game Boy Wars Advance 1+2.
There’s currently no word on when we can expect Re-Boot Camp to be released, so we’ll have to wait and see what happens.
