Even if you've never watched Brooklyn Nine-Nine, there's a good chance you're familiar with one of the cop comedy show's most iconic opening scenes. In an effort to weed out a killer, Detective Jake Peralta asks his lineup of suspects to perform Backstreet Boys' 1999 classic, 'I Want It That Way'.
What follows is one of the finest 60 seconds of television I think I've ever seen, and an encapsulation of everything that makes Brooklyn Nine-Nine so good when it's firing on all cylinders. Genius. But I know what you're thinking. "What would this incredible scene look like if it were recreated entirely within Animal Crossing: New Horizons?" The good news is that you don't have to imagine, as YouTuber Dclemente (via Kotaku) has assembled their own cast of animal villagers to offer a fresh take on the legendary cold open.
As you can see below, Raymond (AKA the internet's favourite villager) takes on the role of Peralta and absolutely nails it. Granted, the video still uses the audio from the original clip, but that only adds to the magic. Marshall, the adorable squirrel, plays against type here as Number Five, AKA the murderer.
You know what? I'll just let the clip speak for itself.

Huge props to Dclemente for making laugh out loud with this unexpected nugget of genius. I can only hope that they've inspired other YouTubers to pick up Animal Crossing: New Horizons and recreate other classic scenes from TV and film. I wouldn't mind seeing Raymond turn his unique talents to a remake of key scenes from Breaking Bad, for example.
In other deeply weird Animal Crossing news, PETA recently decided to storm the in-game musuem and protest the fact that it's filled with fish. Virtual fish, obviously, but PETA still doesn't seem best pleased about it. Footage of the animal rights group appeared online, showing a group of in-game protesters running around the museum and demanding Blathers - the owl curator - be "cancelled".
The irony is that this footage implies members of PETA picked up copies of the game and first filled a museum with fish... so that they could protest the fact the fish were in there. This has been pointed out to them several hundred times by now.
