I honestly never thought I'd see the day, but Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have just announced New Pokémon Snap, a sequel to the much-loved 1999 N64 classic.
For those unfamiliar with the concept, New Pokémon Snap is essentially an on-rails shooter. Except instead of gunning down zombies or dinosaurs, you're taking pictures of adorable Pokémon on safari. Your aim is to snap 'em all, and you'll get more points for better pictures, which can ultimately lead to opportunities to come across rarer monsters.
The original game is hugely adored to this day, and fans have spent the last 20 years wondering why on Earth we don't have a sequel yet. I guess we can finally stop asking. Take a look at the reveal trailer below.
The original Pokémon Snap was one of the first franchise spinoffs, and is still widely considered to be one of the best. As a wide-eyed six-year-old kid, the original game showed me two things. The first was that photography could be so much fun. The second was that we didn't need to use Pokémon solely as tools for destruction... even if it's undeniably a lot more fun when that's the case.

There's no word on a release date for the project, and as far as we can see there's no gameplay footage in the above trailer. At the moment, it seems New Pokémon Snap is "under construction," which probably means we shouldn't expect to see it anytime soon.
Still, we've already waited more than two decades for a sequel - what's another year or so between friends? Now, if Nintendo would like to carry on making all my dreams come true, I wouldn't say no to the following: Pokémon Stadium 3, remakes of Gold & Silver in the style of Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee, and an open-world Pokémon game with a real-time action battle system.
