Nintendo has ruled out launching a more-powerful 'Pro' model of its popular Switch console in 2020, stating that it's focused instead on its existing line, namely the original Joy-Cons-come-off Switch and the handheld-only Switch Lite, which launched last year.

But while this news will be a slight downer for some out there, eager for Nintendo to really push this generation of hardware to new heights (and, y'know, maybe get a console out there that can handle xCloud when it inevitable spreads from Microsoft hardware to other devices), the Japanese gaming giants sweetened things with the reveal of a new Switch, adorned with Animal Crossing designs.

And, well, look at it. Look at it. We needs it. It's not a matter of, oh, that's nice, maybe if my regular old Switch breaks I'll pick that up. It's more: gimme, gimme, gimme. Not necessarily an attitude that'd endear you to your average Animal Crossing character, sure. But this thing is gorgeous, uh. Nintendo, if you're reading: you know where we are.

The Animal Crossing Switch launches alongside the new game in the cute-as-pie social simulator series, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, on March 20th. A companion carry case is also available, and why would you not partner it with this minty, seafoam-y, pastel-y beauty?

Back to the Pro for a mo, though. Nintendo's president Shuntaro Furukawa stated, in a financial results briefing (via Nintendo Life), that:

"Regarding Nintendo Switch, we believe that it is important to continue to communicate the appeal of both Nintendo Switch systems and expand the installed base. Please note that we have no plans to launch a new Nintendo Switch model during 2020."

So that's that, then. Not that I need a more-powerful Switch, TBH. I like mine as it is, just fine. But there's no denying that if Nintendo were to put out a model that could run games to look as they do on PS4 Pro or Xbox One X, that wouldn't half put the Switch haters back in their boxes.
