Oh My God, Toad In Human Form Is Nightmare Fuel

You didn't want to sleep tonight anyway, right?

Some things are cute. Some things are super cute. Toad from Super Mario? Man, there's not even a word for that kind of cuteness. He inhabits his own stratosphere.

Enter Miguel Vasquez, an artist with the uncanny skill to turn our favourite fantasy cartoon and video game characters into realistic, 3D renders. As spotted by Kotaku, Vasquez's most recent project takes on the wholesome gorgeousness of Toad and... well, destroys everything we held dear about the poor thing. Here, take a peek:

Vasquez says the purpose of their art is to "disturb people" by taking popular cartoon characters from their childhood and transforming them into 3D, human-like models. Mission accomplished, I reckon.

I'm not sure what unsettles me most about this cursed image. Is it the chest hair? The gently saggy man-boobs and eerily realistic nipples? The nose-less face? The bags encircling his black, empty, soul-less eyes? They're all unsettling on their own; put them together, however, and the final puzzle is infinitely more terrifying than the disparate parts. Poor Toad.

For more, just scroll through Vasquez's timeline and I'm pretty sure you will never sleep again, particularly when you stumble upon The Simpsons' kids. And Patrick from SpongeBob and... oh, let's face it, they're all legitimately terrifying. Sorry in advance.
