Pro Gamer Involved In Car Accident On Way To Major Tournament

The car is a complete writeoff.

Charlie “CharlieDaKing” Antoun, one of the best Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Wolf players and former Super Smash Bros. Wii U Fox star, was involved in a nasty accident on the way to Mainstage 2021 and his car has been written off.

Luckily, no one was seriously hurt in the crash, bar “some neck and back pain”, though it sounds like it was a scary moment for Antoun and his friend Jordan who was in the car with him. "The lane had been moving smoothly at around 50 mph with no stops for the duration of my time in it and we were travelling a good distance away from the SUV,” recalled the pro player on the GoFundMe page to cover costs of the crash.

Mainstage is hosted in Ontario, California, and this accident occurred only five minutes from the venue. “The SUV suddenly slammed on their breaks [sic] extremely hard and I reacted as quick as I could,” continued Antoun.

“I slammed on my brakes and tried to veer to the right but the shoulder was blocked by a barricade. I ended up hitting the barricade and then collided with the SUV,” he concluded.. Again, it’s fortunate that no one in the other car was injured, but the photos of Antoun’s car shows how severe the impact was.

That car was Antoun’s “pride and joy” so the realisation that his insurance would not cover the accident was a major blow. As a result, he set up a GoFundMe page to raise the $12,000 needed to repair the car. However, once $5,000 had been raised, he shut down the page with an explanation.

“After my mechanic took a closer look at the damage done I was told that the vehicle is irreparable,” he said, adding that the $5,000 plus donations from Twitch and bookings for his Metafy lessons would be enough to buy a new car. “Thank you again for the overwhelming support. I'll update you all when the car is finally replaced. Thank you and much love.”
