Gamer And Their Dad Finish 10-Year Quest To Complete Mario Game

This gamer and their father have spent the last ten years completing Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 together, and they've finally crossed the finish line with 242 stars to their names.

It's a heck of a task, The Perfect Run. As the final mission of the game, the player needs to have completed the penultimate mission, The Ultimate Test, which is exactly what it says on the tin. The player must collect all 240 Power Stars and Green Stars (without any Bronze Stars, mind) to unlock this one, and then collect the Comet Medal upon completion. Then, they're able to start The Perfect Run as long as they have 9,999 Star Bits invested with the Banktoad, which triggers the Prankster Comet. Still with me?

In this intense playthrough, the player only has one hit point and all Checkpoint Flags have been removed. Ergo, if the player makes the slightest mistake, it's back to the very beginning. It's not helped by the fact that Choppahs are pretty prevalent here, and they are only defeated by being consumed by Yoshi. However, if the player manages to make it to the end and get the upper hand on the Boomerang Bros., they'll be sent to the Grandmaster Galaxy where Rosalina will bestow the very last Power Star. The experience is gruelling to say the least, and lots of players have simply written it off, as completing Super Mario Galaxy 2 is enough of an achievement. Nevertheless, Reddit user jaydentries and their dad rose to the challenge, and almost every night, they'd try, try again.

You've got to commend their commitment. Yet, in 2021, three years after their quest for The Perfect Run commenced, they'd finally done it and our hearts are so full. They shared the photo of Mario securing that last Star proudly, and the community have praised their tireless efforts. That's not all. Their journey together actually started with Super Mario Galaxy, where they spent seven years on the game to snag the 100% completion sticker. So, all in all, the two took ten years to fully complete the Super Mario Galaxy series, and the most wonderful part is that in spite of everything else that was going on in their lives, they still took time to chip away at a game they both love. "Nothing will ever beat it in my eyes," said jaydentries.
